Seven Great Ways to Make Your Lawn Mowing Business Sticky

Starting a lawn mowing business can be a lucrative and rewarding venture. However, making it successful and keeping customers loyal takes more than just offering quality services. Here are some great ways to make your lawn mowing business “sticky” and keep customers coming back year after year.

Choose a Memorable Name:

The first step to making your business sticky is to choose a memorable name that stands out and is easy to remember. Your name should be unique, easy to spell, and evoke a positive connotation with your potential customers.

Remember that a lot of people these days use the internet to find a business that they would like to use. Keep your name easy to type in a search engine correctly. Don’t go spelling lawns as lawnz. This may look great but it will also make it hard for potential customers to find you

Don’t make it too generic either. Generic names are also hard to find and will bring up a lot of your competition in the search results. A name like “Hamilton City Lawn Mowing” is not going to work well in a search because the name is not unique enough. Your business has keywords alright but it is going to drown in a sea of similar results.

Invest in Magnetic Business Cards:

Magnetic business cards are a great way to ensure your customers will always have your contact information on hand. These cards are designed to stick to metal surfaces, such as refrigerators or file cabinets, making it easier for customers to access your information when they need it.

When you hand your lawn-mowing customers a traditional business card it is usually buried under a pile of assorted papers within a week. If the customer tries to find your card a few weeks later, they will struggle. After a month, you might as well forget about it.

On the other hand, when you hand your customers a magnetic business card, they will immediately look for a magnetic surface to stick it to. Usually a fridge.

I have had people ring me for a quote years after I have given them a card simply because it is still on their fridge. Have a look at your own fridge now and see if you have any business magnets that have been there for a couple of years. I’m sure you will find at least a couple.

We get our magnetic business cards printed by Vista Print. They don’t cost a lot and normally arrive in a couple of weeks.

Offer Value-Added Services:

To make your lawn mowing business sticky, you should consider offering value-added services that set you apart from your competitors. These can be things like fertilizing, weed control, or tree and shrub care.

By offering these additional services, you can build a stronger relationship with your customers and provide them with a comprehensive lawn care solution.

If you cannot or will not offer these additional services, then slowly build up a list of local businesses that can help them. It is always better when you say, I can’t help you there but I know someone that can. This way, you leave the customer feeling that the call to you was worthwhile.

This will make them more likely to call you in the future when they do need your service.

Utilize Referral Programs:

Referral programs can be an effective way to grow your business and increase customer loyalty. Offer incentives such as discounts or free services to customers who refer new business to you. This not only encourages existing customers to spread the word about your services, but it also helps build trust with new customers who are referred by someone they know and trust.

You can make the program simple by saying that once the new customer has their third mow, you will give them a $10-$20 gift voucher. This is a win-win for both of you. The customer can help their friend find someone reliable, and you get a new loyal customer.

Have an easily recognizable logo.

Have a logo that is simple yet easy to recognize. People remember pictures better than names and a good logo will help people recall your name. Use colors that stand out and work well together.

There is a free logo maker on the Vista site. It’s not going to design you a high-end custom logo for free, but if you just want to build a thriving local business, then it is good enough.

Communication is king.

One great way to make your lawn mowing business sticky is to keep the lines of communication with customers and leads open.

Keep your customers in the loop if something happens. It is easy to send a text saying, “sorry, we will be there tomorrow”, and the customer is happy. Send this text as early as possible to avoid the customer getting put out.

Also, if you are running late for an appointment, let the customer know BEFORE you are late. If we know we are running late, we will text and let the customer know ten minutes before we are due.

If you miss a call and they leave a message, then call the customer back immediately also, if we are talking face-to-face with a customer (or potential customer) and the phone rings. We ignore it and call them back when we are in the truck.

Never take a call when you are talking to a customer. That is just plain rude.

Focus on Building Relationships.

Finally, focus on building relationships with your customers. Make an effort to get to know them and their needs, and offer personalised services that meet their unique needs. This will help you build a loyal customer base that will choose your business time and time again.

Care about your customers; if you catch their eye when you’re mowing a lawn, give them a smile and a wave. If you are having a bad day, dont tell them.

In conclusion, making your lawn mowing business sticky requires a combination of great branding, value-added services, and consistent customer communication. By following these tips, you can build a loyal customer base and establish a successful, sustainable business for years to come.
