How to create the best lawn care website.
Importance of a strong online presence for lawn care businesses
If you do not have a website for your lawn service, you are missing out on many leads. You may think you are getting a few leads a week and doing alright. A good website could double your leads and help you grow your business faster.
The simple fact these days is that when people want their lawn done, the first thing that they will do is jump online and search. If one of your customers recommends you in passing to someone else, and they do a search for your business, what will they find? If you are not there, they will find plenty of other lawn care businesses ready and willing to give a free estimate and do the job.
This guide will walk you through the process of getting a website and getting more customers.
Choose a User-Friendly Website Builder
If you want to build a great website and grow your lawn care business, there are plenty of places to do that. Here are a few options that you can use to set up a site.
WordPress: This is a much steeper learning curve than the others, but ultimately, you could set up a much better site with more bells and whistles.
Wix: This is a simple drag-and-drop interface. You can put a site together reasonably quickly, and they have plenty of templates available.
Weebly: This is similar to Wix and has pretty much the same features.
If you don’t feel like going through the process of setting up a site yourself, I have an option that I use for the lawn care business I work with. It’s available for just $99 a year.
What is a drag-and-drop interface?
This is simply a website builder with different blocks available, and you use them to build your site. They may have blocks like Header, About Us, Contact Us, Gallery, etc. You drag the blocks into the places you want, change the words, and hook up the phone number and message section, and you are good to go.
Use a Clean and Responsive Design.
Keep your site simple. One mistake that I see a lot of lawn care businesses make is to design a completed site with mixed messages and no straightforward call to action. Remember that the sole purpose of your website is to get a lead to call you or send you a message. Would you rather have someone read about your business or call your business? I know which one I would prefer.

A one-page site.
This is why I like a one-page design for small local lawn care businesses. It cuts straight to the chase, and it is easy to navigate. I want my website to convert into a call or a message. It’s not there for entertainment.
Make sure your website design looks good on both mobile and PC. I have seen people get their sites looking amazing on a computer, and it falls to pieces on a mobile.
Don’t use solid walls of text. No one will read that, especially on a mobile, where most searches are these days. Keep the message short and to the point. Don’t use fluff; you are not rewarded for word count.

Showcase Your Services and point of difference.
Feature a range of services prominently on your page. Don’t provide a laundry list of services. Nobody is going to read that. Have no more than half a dozen serves featured on your page.
The Description
When you design your feature, have detailed descriptions telling the potential customer exactly how you perform the service. If you are not much of a writer, list everything the job involves and feed it into ChatGPT, and it will write something for you.
The images
Try to use original photos for everything on the website. Your site will rank better with bad original photos than good stock images. Google LOVES original images that can’t be found anywhere else online. It shows Google that you are actually out there doing the work. Even this site is 80% original photos (and a lot of cartoons :-).
I take a photo every day while I’m on the job. A random timer goes off, and I take a shot or two; that’s all there is to it. Do this, and you will have a neverending stream of photos that keep the Google monster happy.
What is your point of difference?
Tell people what makes you stand out from the crowd in the blab about your business (also written by ChatGPT if you want). Everyone remembers your point of difference. Ours is one of the oldest lawn companies in town with the best reputation. Here are some ideas for a point of difference.

Include Testimonials and Reviews
Building trust with potential customers will get more people to respond when you show reviews. I use a plugin on my WordPress site which scrapes my reviews from any source and displays them on the page. We live in a world where people pay a lot of attention to reviews.
If two sites are exactly the same, the one with the good reviews and testimonials wins. By showing positive feedback on your page, you reinforce credibility.
Optimize for Search Engines (SEO)
This is what makes your site start climbing the rankings. This sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. It is the simple stuff like
- Use headings and subheadings.
- Use small images (nothing over 250kb). You can use a tool like Bulk Resize Photos to reduce the size.
- Fill in your meta tags and use descriptions on your file names for photos
- Get backlinks: Other local businesses link to your website.
- Use keywords
What is a keyword?
A keyword is exactly what it says on the box. Any word can be a keyword, but for you, it is words related to your industry, such as lawn care service, lawn mowing, lawn and landscape, landscaping services, free quotes, etc. If you cannot think of some keywords, ask ChatGPT when you have finished writing your business description.
Once you have a few dozen keywords, try to naturally fit them into your writing.
Provide Clear Contact Information
One of the things I notice a lot on Facebook is people with business pages for their lawn care company, and they don’t even have a location on the page. You have no idea where they are. That is wasting both your customers’ time and your efforts. Don’t be that guy.
Have your city in your header at the top of the page. List the areas you serve in a prominent place. Have your address and contact details where they can be easily found. Google frowns on having different contact details on different sites, so ensure your information is the same everywhere.

Implement Calls-to-Action (CTAs)
Have a clickable phone number button in the top right-hand corner of the page. This is the number one best spot on the website. Have another one in the header. In fact have a few more down the page. Always be asking for the sale.
Have a message me option on the page for people who don’t want to call. Hook it up to a separate email account that pings on your phone as soon as a message is left. The faster you respond, the better the chance of getting the quote.
Guide your visitors toward taking action with statements like “Call Now” and “Call Us Today For A Free Quote.” Always use a call-to-action wherever you can.
Regularly Update Content and Blog
Writing a blog post is one of the best ways to rise in the rankings. Google loves lawn care business sites that blog regularly. What do you blog about? Take the questions that your customers ask the most and write about them. You will find that this is also what people are searching for, bringing up your local site.
Have a section that is updated regularly. You could write about seasonal lawn care tips, industry insights, local events, etc.
