Sometimes when I am looking around online I will see a piece of equipment that I want at a great price.
I will look at a mower online and think, I could save $150.
Then, if I really want the mower then I will head to my local lawnmowing shop and buy it for the full price.
Why would I do that?
It may sound counterproductive but there is a method behind my madness.
You see, the real question here is “what is going to happen if it breaks down?” Am I going to pack it up and return it for a warranty job?
And if I do, how long is this going to take?
Meanwhile, what do I do about not having a mower?
This is where buying from your local shop gives you a real advantage.
When I select a local shop to do business I ask “What is your turnaround time for contractors?”
A good mower shop will prioritize repairs for their lawn mowing contractors.
The usual agreement I make is that I buy from one local shop and when any piece of equipment breaks, they fix it quickly. (if they have parts on hand of course)
This works well for both parties.
If you want an even better service then one way that has worked for me in the past is to pay my account the day it is due. This works wonders and it doesn’t cost you any extra but it sets you apart from the crowd.
It is a great feeling to call in with a breakdown and be out with the machine running will within 15 minutes.
You also have the bonus that by shopping locally you are helping your local community.
A win-win all round I would say.
